One of the oldest games around, checkers (or draughts) is
still played by millions of people throughout the world- all
using virtually the same rules.
The early pharaohs (c.1600 BC) were the first to play a version
of the game, and the checkers played today on a 64-square
board was introduced in the 12th century AD. Early games resembling
chess are first found in 6th century India and China. Like
checkers, the game has evolved over time with the range of
pieces increasing and the moves speeding up to create the
chess that we recognise today.
The
checkerboard button reflects the subtlety and dignity of these
ancient pastimes and is offered in hand burnished silver and
gilt finishes.
