The symmetrical 'Diamond Weave' design was developed in the mid 18th century, but it was not until the art deco period of the 1920's when it reached the peak of it's popularity. The period's emphasis on angular lines and geometric patterns saw the Diamond Weave become the height of fashion, appearing on cigarette cases, pocket watches and a host of other items.

These items became favourites of well-know characters such as Noel Coward and Coco Channel. The pattern is created by a technique known as 'engine turning' which involves rotating the object to be engraved on a lathe, while applying the design with a specially created cutting head.

This beautifully handcrafted button harks back to the extravagance of an era of exquisite style and elegance. It is available in bronze and gilt finishes.
