The American Eagle has been central to American history since the origins of the nation. Native to North America it was chosen as the central symbol in the Great Seal of the United States and represents the freedom and spirit of the American people.

The Great Seal was considered crucial to the Founding Fathers. Future presidents Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson were among those who commenced work on the project shortly after the Declaration of Independence on 4 July 1776.

Latterly, bald eagle numbers have declined across America and the bird is on the endangered list in 48 states. It is only appropriate that New Collection should carry the American Eagle button since Firmin supplied uniform buttons to both side in the American War of Independence! This button is finished in gilt and burnished by hand, and is available in burgundy.
