Golf has come a long way since a Scottish Act of Parliament banned it in 1457. The Scottish King, James II, decided that to much golf was preventing archery practice - crucial as the Scots continued to repel the English along the border.

Golf soon recovered and developed along Scotland's East Coast, with the first organised tournament held at Leith in 1744. The renowned Old Course at St. Andrews has become famous the world over.

The modern golf ball is a far cry from the leather pouch filled with feathers used in those days. The pattern of dimples on the surface is designed to create lift, distance and accuracy. The Golf Ball buttons remain a favourite of aficionados of this popular sport and are offered in silver and gilt finishes.
