The design on this button was inspired by the image found on one of the finest ancient carvings in the world. The carvings of the three lions, found in the modern state of Uttar Pradesh, are credited to Asoka, the last emperor of the Mauryan dynasty of India who reigned in the 3rd century BC.

Originally a great military leader, Asoka revoked violence and changed his way of life. Adopting Buddhism, he became a man of the people and provided hospitals, Monuments, and roads that were safe to travel on. He also ordered pillars to be carved with inscriptions of his interpretations of religious doctrine. The three lions later became India's national symbol which is placed centrally on the Indian flag.

The Three Lions of Asoka button is offered in hand burnished silver, antique silver and gilt finishes.
