Commonly viewed as a British game, Polo's origins were actually
in 600BC when the Turkomans and Persians played the first
game. Just for the record, the Turkomans won.
It was not until the 1850's when British tea planters first
discovered the game on the Burmese border with India. One
of the polo clubs that they formed, the Calcutta Club, is
the oldest in the world today having been running since 1862
>Today, polo is governed by the Hurlingham Polo Association
and is played all over the world. The game was recognised
as an Olympic sport between 1900 and 1939 and is expected
to be included once again at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.
The
Polo Club button captures the style of this elegant equestrian
sport and is offered in a hand burnished gilt finish.
