This design is an exact replica of those worn by the officers on the famous R.M.S. Titanic. The great ship belonged to the White Star Line, for whom Firmin & Sons originally produced these buttons.

The White Star Line created a vessel of unmatched size, luxury and speed to respond to the tremendous competition on the transatlantic route. White Star's flag flew proudly from the main peak. The red swallow-tailed pennant with a white star was one of the most famous in the North Atlantic.

The RMS Titanic went down on it's maiden voyage in 1912 en route to New York from Southhampton. The vessel sank after colliding with an iceberg about 400 miles (640km) south of Newfoundland. Few mementoes survive from this tragic event, however these special buttons are now available in hand burnished silver and gilt finishes.
